March/April In Room 2

During the month of March we celebrated Saint Patricks day. We made shamrock headbands and learned a special Irish Dance for the annual Ceili that is held in Scoil Mhuire every year. Here are some pictures of us practicing our dance in the hall and ones of the actual Ceili!

We also celebrated Mothers Day at the end of March. We spoke about how much we love our Mammies and how we should look after them and help them around the house as much as we can. We also went on a special trip to the Garden Centre in Newlands cross to make our very own basket of flowers for our Mammies. We all stood around a table and we got to pick which flowers we wanted in our baskets. We all had to plant our own flowers by making a hole in the soil with our hands and putting the flowers in. Here are some pictures of us in the Garden Centre! We hope all the Mammies in Room 2 loved the flowers the boys and girls made them!

World Book Day

On the 2nd March we celebrated world book day. We all got to wear our pyjamas to school or else we could dress up as a character from our favourite book. We had such a great day. We spent the day reading books and writing about our favourite books. Teacher said we could bring in our favourite book too, each class got the chance to go up to the old computer room where we got to sit on cushions and read our books to each other.

Teacher even wore her pyjamas to school! Here is a picture of our whole class in our pyjamas and costumes on World Book Day.

Travel and Trasnport

Our theme for February was Travel and Transport. We learned all about the different types of transport that exist in our world. We learned all about cars, trucks. buses, aeroplanes and even hot air balloons! We then talked about old and new transport. We looked at pictures and had to decide whether it was old or new. Here are some pictures of us sorting our pictures in to old and new transport.

We also sorted transport in to whether they are land, air, track or sea transport. Here we are sorting our transport pictures in to land, air, sea or tracks. We all decided that trains and trams travel on tracks buses, cars, motorbikes and bikes travel on land, Boats, submarines and canoes travel on the water and that helicopter, aeroplanes and hot air balloons travel in the sky.

We also set up our very own airport in our classroom as part of our Role Play Area for Aistear. We then invited Treasa in to talk to our class about working the airport. Treasa works in the airport for an airline called Are Lingus. She spoke to us all about checking in everyones bag, printing out their tickets and talking about how the airport works.

10 10 10

On the 10th of February at 10 o'clock our whole school went outside to the yard to take part in 10 minutes of exercise as part of  Operation Transformation. All classes from Junior Infants to 6th class went out to the yard. The senior classes did laps of the senior yard while the Junior an Senior Infants all stood in a circle and completed various exercises such as marching, lunges, jumping jacks and high knees! We had such a great time. Here are some photos of us out in the yard that morning.

Step up week!

As part of Step up week in our school each class had to record the number of steps they did each day. The class with the highest number of steps at the end of each week won either the golden boot, silver boot or the flip flop. Room 2 have been so busy - we counted up to 20,000 steps during Step up week in January! We went on our Shape walk, danced to Zumba in our classroom and did our exercises in the yard every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Last Friday it was announced that Room 2 came 3rd in the whole school and we get to keep the flip flop in our classroom! Teacher is so so proud of all the boys and girls in Room 2.

Santa's Visit to Scoil Mhuire

On the very last day of term before Christmas Holidays we had a very very special visitor to Scoil Mhuire- Santa!! We all gathered in the hall, just as we were sitting down we could hear the sound of the bells and Santa's Sleigh landing on the roof of the hall. This was so exciting!! A few minutes later Santa arrived in to the hall with a bag full of sweets and presents on his back. Each class sang Santa different Christmas songs, Junior Infants sang ' Here comes Santa Claus'. Santa gave us a bag of jellies each. We had such a lovely day.

Here are some pictures of us wearing our lovely Christmas Jumpers in the hall for Santa's Visit.

Christmas in Room 2

December was a very busy month for us in Room 2!! We spent most of the month practising for our very own Nativity Play - The Sleepy Shepherd. We had such fun learning all the different songs and lines for our play. We worked so hard every day and we finally performed the play for our parents and the whole school during the last week of school. Teacher was so proud of us and said that we were brilliant!!

Here are some pictures of us during the dress rehearsal for our Christmas Play.

The day after the play we all watched our selves on the whiteboard in Room 3. We had such fun looking at everyone singing all the songs and saying all their lines.

As part of our Christmas Art we made some Christmas Trees and Rudolph by cutting out triangles and cutting and pasting them on to pages. We used glitter to decorate our Christmas trees and we all got to pick a star to put on top too. Take a look at our wonderful Art from December!
